Middle Eastern Studies at North Park


Students in any major can add a Middle Eastern studies minor to explore the region’s politics, history, religions, and culture. The minor is especially relevant for those studying politics and government, history, biblical and theological studies, or international business.

With a Middle Eastern Studies minor, you will gain insight into the region’s social and political history, current issues, and faith traditions, while developing valuable skills in communication and intercultural dialogue.

Featured course


BTS 2700-World Religions
Study of the common features and distinctive motifs that characterize some of the main religious traditions Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and others. Emphasis on development of a methodology for reading and interpreting the world’s scriptures. Discussion of the relation of Christian to non-Christian religions. Theological Emphasis.

Minor requirements


To meet the requirements for this minor, students must complete the following:

  • 20 semester hours of coursework in Middle Eastern studies, biblical and theological studies, history, and politics and government
  • A portfolio submitted to the program director that includes a self-assessment, reflection on their educational experiences, and samples of work from their completed courses.

This minor is not a standalone program; students must complete afull undergraduate majorat North Park in order to graduate from the University.
